As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, we pause to remember, honor, and reflect.
Steve Jobs famously spoke about only being able to connect the dots looking backward. When we look back at that tragic day a quarter of a century ago, the lessons left behind by ordinary people showing extraordinary courage under unimaginable circumstances remain profound—both in the air and on the ground.
Consider the remarkable resilience of the passengers and crew on Flight 93. Faced with the stark realization of what was happening and operating under conditions of unthinkable stress, they hatched a spontaneous plan to foil determined, rehearsed hijackers.
They did their very best with the tools they had:
Resourcefulness: Using a service cart as an improvised battering ram.
Tactical Thinking: Heating water to use against the hijackers.
Preparedness: Identifying a licensed pilot among them to take back control.
So many owe an enduring debt of gratitude to the heroes of Flight 93, alongside the countless first responders and everyday citizens on the ground who answered the call that day and in the days that followed
Moving Forward with Resolve
It is difficult to find a starker example of "doing the best with what you have." Beyond the immense grief, 9/11 stands as a powerful reminder that in imperfect, high-stakes situations—whether as individuals, organizations, nations, or a global community—we have the capacity to reach deep down with great resolve to combat adversity.
Today, let us honor their memory by carrying forward that same courage, unity, and willingness to persevere.
